"Susan.. When I read your responds, I felt a connection..not sure why at the time. Now that I read your profile, I know why....I was born in Cheverly MD in 1944. That's just outside Brentwood & Rainier MD. My parents were raised there, but we came to Oregon when I was 2yrs old and have lived here every since. Still, when you say Maryland, it says HOME> My grandparents lived 60 yrs in a Sears/Robock catolog home!! It was built 2 miles from Grandpa's birthplace. Now, as far as my allergy goes... yes, I can use cane sweetners, though I try to refrain from too much, as I am also diabetic. Anything that comes in a box or bag I don't even look at. They will all have some form of corn. There are only certain types of salad dressings, cereals, mayo, ketchup, breads, etc. that I can have. Pure chocolate is the only candy and only 2 brands of ice cream...of course, they are the spendy ones, so I only get ice cream about 2x a year as a special treat. All baked goods must be made from scratch --and I'm not really a baker. One of my daughter in laws is, so she has taken it as her responsibility to make special cakes for me at birthday parties, cookies as a treat, etc. I am blessed by her love. She has found potato starch works well. I can't tell the difference in taste. I do have a bread maker, but, have never used it. (a gift). Reason... I love..LOVE..homemade fresh hot bread with real butter.... I would not be able to have just one slice...as a diabetic, more would be a No/No. :( I have found some mini bagels (always carry one in my purse in case my sugar levels drop low) and one brand of bread I can have that does not cost $4.00 a loaf. Thank You Lord. I have found ways to deal with this allergy, but, I am looking for receipes as the ones I have are getting old.... need some new inspiration. :) Have a great week........stay cool...I know it gets humid back there...something I don't handle very well.
