Cold Weather Yearning

Now that cooler weather is once again here in Northern Illinois, I find that I want to prepare meals that absolutely will not satisfy any other time of the year. I'm talking about meat loaf and au gratins, stuffed pork chops, baked beef stew with crusty bread. What is the one (or more) meal that you only make in the winter that just doesn't satisfy as much during the rest of the year?

One of our childhood favorites in the winter was a casserole called, "Shipwrecked", really a conglomeration of things anyone can find in their pantry but put together, it was a hardy warming dish and smelled great while cooking.  It's on my page home recipe page if anyone wants.  Linda

I am cooking Salsa Chicken Soup in the crockpot today.  It will be ready when everyone gets home from work.  I love cooking soups this time of year.

Slow cooked potroast with all those yummy root veggies that are so plentiful now.  Fills the house with the most amazing aroma and warmth.

I love chili and make it more in fall/winter than any other time.  Spaghetti I have year round.  Make soups only in colder weather. Generally make Meat Loaf when cooler weather starts but will have it sometimes in summer. I bake more in fall/winter as helps heat up the house. Happy cooking all

Usually soups and stews and sometimes even roasts  (I don't understand that one but thats what they say) Here in Australia it can be very, very hot so the family don't even want to think about any hot food, but I can eat a roast anytime!
