I love giving homemade gifts to people on my list (my kids' teachers, etc.), and this year, I'm planning to make up some cookie baskets. Any great ideas for wrapping up the goodies to make them more special? I thought about putting them in some sort of reusable container, but I wanted to come up with something clever.

You could paint or decoupage (with wrapping paper, cards, etc) cans (such as coffee or formula cans. That's my plan!

How about lollipop cookies in a mini pail, (can get a Hobby Stores), Put rice in pail and cover with a thick layer of colored glitter.  Wrap cookies in Cellophane and tie with Christmas Ribbon. Frost cookies with Christmas Colors, snowmen, or Christmas trees etc.  Paula Deane did this with Rice Krispy hearts for Valentines Day.

I used a small sandbucket one yr with the shovel attached on the side with my message.  I live in a small community and knew the teacher had small children at home.  This is a gift that keeps on giving.  The family enjoys the treats and the kids enjoy the sandbucket as soon as it warms up.

I use holiday mugs, make a friends favorite cookie or candy, put them in the mug along with a packet of hot cocoa mix wrapped in clear plastic tied with a ribbon have a snack and hot drink and a cup they can use for years. Jackie

I have put homemade cookies or candies in holiday giftbags that are made of clear cellophane. Some people call them goody-bags. You put 4-5 big cookies in one and seal it by tying with a festive ribbon. People love them.

Hi! I'm new here, but thought I'd add my solution to the container idea.  Each year I give homemade chocolates/candy and I've found that the plastic containers that chinese food comes in are terrific!  Not the ones with the wire handles but the ones that are usued for dinners or combos etc.  They seal very well - some are round, others rectangular, etc.  Sometimes I then use tissue paper with a bow in the center to make a great presentation, other times I've just put a pretty card on them and a bow!

Good luck in finding what you're looking for!

For teachers, how about putting them a gladware container inside an inexpensive handbag or bookbag? Or look at thrift stores for interesting crockery, and vases that you can arrange them in, cover with saran wrap and decorate with ribbon. Or thrift store tea cups and saucers, fill the tea cup with a tea bag or homemade mulling spices or cocoa mix, and pile cookies on the saucer.

You can never go wrong with Rubbermaid, Tupperware, etc. containers. People always need them. One of my son-in-law's favorite dessert is any kind of cookie and I have given him a small tool box full. I have put them in sewing baskets for my girls with basic sewing needs wrapped up. I have given new brides cookies in baking dishes, loaf pans, tube pans, etc. Lots of fun and gets your creative juices flowing.
