The Best Pizza dough Ever per our family!!!

Servings:         2 12 inch pizza

Prep time:       2.5 hours

Cook time:      15-20 min

Total time:       3 hours

Ingredients:

Yield: 2 crusts

4 1/2 unbleached all purpose white flour
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup olive oil
2 pk dry yeast
1 1/2 cup warm water
2 tsp light brown sugar

Directions:

Measure 1/2 cup warm water (110f) into 2 cup container and stir in the brown sugar. (make sure water is warm, not hot-too hot will kill the yeast). Dissolve the 2 packages of dried yeast in the water and set it aside for five minutes. Will become frothy.

Sift 4 cups of the flour and the salt into a large mixing bowl. Make a depression in the middle of the flour and pour in 3/4 of the olive oil and 1 cup of warm water. When the yeast is ready, add it also. Dust your kneading surface with flour, then mix the ingredients in the bowl with your hands. Place dough ball on the floured surface and knead from 8-10 minutes. Add flour to the kneading surface if the dough is too sticky or wet. Eventually the dough will become elastic. Rub the insides of a clean bowl with the ramaining olive oil and place the dough in it, coating the dough with olive oil by turning it in the bowl. Cover with a clean cloth and let rise in warm, draft-free place until double in size, 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours.

When dough has risen, divide into two halves, then roll each out on floured surface. A round shape may be cut out with table knife usin 12 inch bowl or plate as template. Sufficient for 2 12inch thin crust pizzas, or 1 12 inch thick crust. Hint: before filling and baking, form rim around outer ring of pizza dough to hold ingredients better. Brush the inside area of the dough, not the rim, with olive oil and let the dough sit in a warm place and rise a little before filling, also bake with nothing on the crust for 3-6 min take out of oven then add sauce and other ingredients.

My husband took a class years ago in pizza dough making but with all our moving, he lost his recipes. I will happily share this one with him, thanks so much! :)

Thank you so much for this wonderful pizza dough recipe.   I love that you bake it for a while before putting the fillings on it.  It sounds just great.   Thanks for posting.

I will try this! I haven't found a good reliable recipe for pizza dough,so maybe this will do it! I usually make two,but can never get equal results. It can be frustrating. I like that you use brown sugar.I like my dough to have a slight sweetness! Thanks Angel!

Wow, thanks. I've tried a lot of recipes and haven't been real thrilled for the exception of a Focccia recipe I have. This will be made this weekend if all the kids come home!
