Railroad Bread

Servings:         16

Prep time:       10 minutes

Cook time:      60 minutes

Total time:       1 hour 10 minutes

 

Ingredients:

1 cup sugar
2 tbsp. vegetable shortening
3 eggs
2 cups sour cream
4 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/4 cups raisins

 

Directions:

Pre-heat oven to 325 grease 2 8x4 inch loaf pans.

Beat together vegetable shortening and sugar. Add the eggs and sour cream and mix well. Add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and raisins and mix until just combined.

Pour batter evenly between the two greased pans and sprinkle natural cane sugar or regular sugar on top of loaves.

Bake loaves at 325 for 1 hour or until done.

Instead of raisins would try it with nuts as my husband doesn't like raisins in sweets.

I am trying to figure out what makes this Railroad bread? Oh well, it sounds really good. It must be like the Train Wreck casserole that we make a lot.
