Winnie the Pooh and Piglet have a party in the woods under the beehive in the honey tree

Servings:         32

Prep time:       10 hours appx.

Cook time:      45 minutes and 50 minutes

Total time:       11 hours 35 minutes appx.

Ingredients:

Beehive cake:
2/3 box yellow cake mix
2 T water
3/8 c veg oil
1/2 c sour cream
1/4 t butter flavor
1 t vanilla
2 eggs
1 T flour
Base cake:
1 box chocolate cake mix
1/3 c water
1/2 c veg oil
10 oz sour cream
1 tsp butter flavor
2 tsp vanilla
3 eggs
1/4 c. flour
Frosting:
2 c vegetable shortening
1/2 c. water
9 c. powdered sugar
1/4 c. corn starch
1 T clear vanilla flavor
1 t clear butter flavor
1 t popcorn salt

Royal icing:
1 T meringue powder
5-6 T water
4 c. powdered sugar

Fondant figures and fence:
16 oz bag marshmallows
2 lb bag powdered sugar
2 T water
1 t clear butter flavor
1 t clear vanilla
1 t popcorn salt
Also: pretzels, marshmallows, cocoa, chocolate graham cracker crumbs

Directions:

In advance: make royal icing bee antennas and wings. Model figures of pooh and piglet. Roll and cut fondant fence pickets. The next day, make bee bodies, and heads, pipe eyes and stripes on. Insert bee wings into bodies. Also, make royal icing drop flowers in 3 colors. Make fondant, and model pooh and piglet figurines.

To make frosting:
mix shortening, water, salt and flavors until smooth. Add powdered sugar and corn starch a little at a time, and mix until smooth.

Royal icing:
Mix meringue powder and powdered sugar. Blend in water, and mix 7-10 minutes. Use immediately or store in airtight container and use the next day.

To mix cakes: add all ingredients and mix 3 minutes. Pour into greased and floured pan.

Fondant:
Melt marshmallows in microwave bowl with water, salt and flavorings until just melted. Mix until smooth. Add powdered sugar, and knead until a bread-dough consistency. Store in plastic bag. This fondant recipe can be cut in 1/4 for this cake. A full fondant recipe will make 2 1/2 lbs of fondant. It will keep at room temperature for 2 months if sealed airtight.

Bake yellow cake in an oven safe mixing bowl, greased and floured at 330 f for appx 45 minutes or until toothpick comes clean when inserted in center. Invert onto round cake board. Mix a small amount of cocoa into 2 c. frosting enough to make light brown frosting. Ice in a circular pattern to resemble a beehive. Mix more cocoa into 1 c frosting to make dark brown frosting. Add a little water to thin frosting if it becomes too thick. Pipe onto the beehive entrance.

Glue marshmallows to underneath side of round cake plate with royal icing.
Bake chocolate cake in a greased, floured 12 inch round pan at 330 f for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Tint 3 c icing light green, and ice cake smooth. Spread graham cracker crumbs to make a forest path. Insert 4 cake pillars into 12 inch cake, and ice with a star tip to resemble tree trunks. Place a few large marshmallows directly on the cake and a few on top of pretzels. Tint 2 c. icing dark green, and pipe in swirls and leaves onto the marshmallows to make trees and bushes. Also pipe leaves onto the middle of the marshmallows on the back of the cake plate. Pipe pull-out stars around the bottom of the base cake. Place previously made royal icing flowers, and pipe leaves next to flowers. Snap plate onto pillars, place beehive cake on plate. Push bees carefully into beehive frosting. Finish trees by piping leaves onto marshmallows and around the beehive. Push fence pickets into cake and place previously made figures. For honey pot, paint a miniature marshmallow with food coloring.

I really like how you have a very detailed recipe and frosting instructions so that anyone who wants to can try and do as good of job as you.  I noticed that many of the other cakes are not detailed at all which greatly detracts from their cake, even if it looks pretty good.

I've learned a few tricks about buying, storing, and cooking food for one and would like to hear from others on the subject.
